First Pilot taped in New York under the title, Those Were the Days

March 1969
Second Pilot taped in Los Angeles with the same script, but with roles of Mike and Gloria re-cast with Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers

Summer 1970
CBS decides to buy All in the Family (AITF) after ABC turns it down

January 12, 1971
Series premieres on CBS

May 1971
AITF wins Emmy as outstanding comedy series

September 1971
AITF begins second seasons at 8:00 PM on Saturday nights; becomes number one prime time series

November 1971
AITF on cover of Newsweek

May 1972
AITF wins seven Emmys

Summer 1974
O'Connor threatens to leave series, first two episodes of fifth seasons taped without him

December 1974
100th episode special, narrated by Henry Fonda

September 1975
AITF moves to 9:00 PM on Tuesdays

AITF begins daytime re-runs on CBS; Archie's grandson arrives

November 1976
Judge Warren Ferguson rules FVT illegal

February 1978
Lear takes leave from day to day involvement in television production

Bunker chairs are placed in the Smithsonian Institution
