Perceptions of "AITF" Ethnic Slurs, 25 years later.........

Phoenix, Ariz., December 10, 1999 --    Recently, a study of 758 people was undertaken over the enormously popular tv show, All in the Family. "A study of randomly sampled individuals on Ethnic Slurs show significant change in perceptions from the early 1970's" stated Edward Taylor, market analyst.

According to Taylor's study, seventy-six percent(76%)of viewers do not believe the ethnic slurs used in All in the Family were wrong. Moreover eleven percent (11%) responded with wrong and very wrong convictions.

In the winter of 1974, Neil Vidmar and Milton Rokeach wrote a selective study on the perceptions and exposure of AITF entitled "Archie Bunker's Bigotry." The results we evenly dispersed and are noted below:

ETHNIC SLURS(1974)
35% Not Wrong
33% Wrong
32% Very Wrong

As the study clearly indicates, viewers today have weakened their convictions of Ethnic Slurs on television. "Twenty-five years after All in the Family made national headlines, forty-one percent (41%) of viewers beliefs on ethnicity have changed. Good or bad, perceptions of slurs on tv are different from the mid-1970's" stated Taylor.
